The Fresno State Bulldogs lead the Boise State Broncos, 24-19, at halftime in what could be a clash of the two best teams in the Mountain West Conference.
Boise State vs. Fresno State: Bulldogs leading Broncos at halftime, 24-19
With the score tied 10-10 after a wacky first quarter, Derek Carr connected with Josh Harper on a 21-yard touchdown pass to give Fresno State the 17-10 lead. Boise State responded with a touchdown of its own with a strike from Grant Hedrick to Troy Ware, though Boise's attempt to catch the Bulldogs off guard with a two-point try failed, keeping the score at 17-16.
Fresno State marched the ball down the field once again two possessions later and found the end zone. Carr connected with Harper yet again to give the Bulldogs a 24-16 lead with just 2:28 remaining before halftime.
The Broncos moved the ball down the field behind do-it-all quarterback Joe Southwick in the final minutes, but the drive stalled late as they reached the red zone. They settled for a 31-yard field goal from Dan Goodale to make the score 24-19 just before the break.
Carr played really well in the first half, completing 16-of-28 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. Perhaps most importantly, the senior did not turn the ball over. Joe Southwick was equally impressive, throwing for 219 yards and rushing for 30 more.
