College football news: Rutgers’ top running back injured; Justin Worley named Tennessee starter

Recapping all of Monday’s college football news.

Al Messerschmidt

After a somewhat slow weekend for college football news, the cycle picked up on Monday with crucial conference games looming for most schools on Saturday. Here is a roundup of all of Monday’s happenings.

Rutgers’ leading rusher out against Louisville

Paul James, who leads Rutgers with 573 rushing yards on 78 carries this season, suffered a lower leg injury over the weekend and will miss at least the next two games, including an Oct. 10 showdown with Louisville. The Scarlet Knights are off this weekend, and while head coach Kyle Flood expects his running back to play again in 2013, it's unclear just how much time he will miss. Look for Gary Nova to throw the football even more during James' absence.

Justin Worley named the starter at Tennessee (again)

Worley began the year as the starter in Knoxville but was quickly replaced by Nathan Peterman after struggling against Oregon in a blowout loss. Peterman suffered a hand injury against Florida over the weekend and will miss a month after undergoing surgery. Worley will be the starter once again as the Volunteers take on South Alabama, according to head coach Butch Jones.

All-Conference cornerback nearing return for Hokies

Antone Exum is hoping to be cleared for practice next week. Exum, who intercepted five passes as a junior in 2012, earned a second-team All-ACC selection last season. He has not played in 2013 due to an ACL injury he suffered back in January. Once he returns to the field, Exum will provide a boost to Virginia Tech's defense, which has played really well in the first month of the season.

LSU lands elite 2017 recruit

Les Miles and the LSU Tigers landed a commitment from stud 2017 recruit Dylan Moses late Sunday night. Moses, who lives in Baton Rouge, is already a physical specimen at the age of 15 and figures to play either running back or outside linebacker once he reaches college.
