Arkansas QB Brandon Allen will return vs. Texas A&M, Bret Bielema announces

The Razorbacks will have their starting quarterback back when Johnny Manziel comes to town.

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen will play this weekend against Texas A&M, according to head coach Bret Bielema.

Allen missed last week’s game against Rutgers with a right shoulder injury that he suffered while diving into the end zone against Southern Miss the week before. Allen was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Allen, a sophomore, has thrown for 388 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception this season. He doesn’t run the ball very often, though he is mobile enough to escape pressure in the pocket. The game this weekend against Texas A&M figures to be a high-scoring contest, and the Razorbacks will need Allen firing on all cylinders if UA hopes to pull the upset in Fayetteville.

If Allen re-injures his shoulder against the Aggies, look for AJ Derby, who started the game last Saturday, to come in as the backup once again. Derby threw for 137 yards and a touchdown against Rutgers.
