San Jose State cornerback Bene Benwikere was carted off the field Friday night after laying motionless for several minutes. Benwikere lowered his head to make a tackle and appeared to injure either his head or neck.

After being immobilized on a stretcher, Benwikere was able to wave his hand to the crowd as he was taken away. Players from both teams surrounded him as he was being attended to by team doctors. ESPN reported shortly after the incident that Benwikere has full feeling in all of his extremities. He is being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Benwikere is regarded as one of the top defensive players in the Mountain West Conference. A senior out of Los Angeles, Benwikere recorded 18 tackles and intercepted a pass during the first three games of the season. Some scouts have said he could be drafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, praising his speed and quick reactions on the field.
