Florida State WR Kelvin Benjamin declares for NFL Draft, per report

Benjamin was the Seminoles’ second-leading receiver in 2013.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Florida State redshirt sophomore wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin will forego his remaining eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, according to Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post. Benjamin is from Palm Beach County.

Benjamin, who has great size at 6’5, 234 pounds, compiled 1,011 yards and 15 touchdowns on 54 catches in 2013, finishing second among Florida State players in receiving yards and first in scores through the air. His biggest catch of the season -- and career -- came in the BCS Championship Game against Auburn. He hauled in a 2-yard TD reception with 13 seconds left in the game, giving the ‘Noles a 34-31 win and their first national title since 1999.

Despite being a redshirt sophomore, Benjamin turns 23 in a few weeks, making him the age of a typical senior.

In his two-year Florida State career, the wideout caught 84 passes for 1,506 yards and 19 touchdowns. Benjamin is projected to hear his name called early in the draft, possibly in the first two rounds. He joins Timmy Jernigan and James Wilder as FSU underclassmen to declare early. The only remaining player who has not announced his intentions is running back Devonta Freeman.
