The University of Buffalo has fired coach Jeff Quinn, according to multiple reports on Twitter. The firing comes following the Bulls’ 37-27 loss to Eastern Michigan, widely considered the worst team in FBS, on Saturday. The news reportedly came as a surprise to Quinn and his staff, who were 3-4 on the season, but went to a bowl game last year.
Buffalo fires coach Jeff Quinn
Quinn led the Bulls to a bowl game last year, but is coming off a loss to Eastern Michigan and was at 3-4 in 2014.

The staff at Buffalo is in shock. Can’t comment yet.

Quinn was apparently unaware of the news until later in the day, as he was on the weekly MAC conference call this morning.
Quinn said no one likes going into a bye week after a loss. We need to work to improve as a team & get ready for Central Michigan. #MACtion
— Ken Mather (@KenMather_MAC) October 13, 2014 It’s unclear what exactly led to Quinn’s firing, since he was fairly successful last season. However, the loss to Eastern Michigan certainly didn’t help, and Buffalo’s only other FBS win this season came against Miami (OH), which is 1-6 on the season. Quinn arrived at Buffalo in 2009 to replace former coach Turner Gill, who had left for Kansas. Previously, he was the offensive coordinator for now-Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly at Cincinnati.
Quinn finished 20-36 at Buffalo. He will be replaced by offensive coordinator Alex Wood, who will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
