Dak Prescott is a very good SEC quarterback. Tim Tebow was a very good SEC quarterback. Anything else, Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who has faced both of them?
Nick Saban: Dak Prescott is a lot like Tim Tebow, ‘but is also a very good passer’
Hey, that’s a fun quote.
Saban: Dak Prescott "reminds you of Tebow in a lot of ways, but is also a very good passer."
— Cecil Hurt (@CecilHurt) November 10, 2014 Saban’s intention likely wasn’t to insult Tebow, but it certainly comes off that way when read. Regardless, let’s break down the numbers!
In his 55-game career with Florida, Tebow completed 66.4% of his passes for 9.3 yards per attempt with 88 touchdowns against 16 interceptions. In 22 games with Mississippi State, Prescott has completed 59.7% of his passes for 8.2 yards per attempt with 32 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. Prescott actually has a considerably higher rushing average than Tebow -- 5.6 to 4.3 -- but Tebow scored rushing touchdowns at a much higher rate.
Saban went 1-1 against Tebow during the quarterback’s time at Florida. Saban’s Alabama is 1-0 against Prescott at Mississippi State, winning by an average margin of 29-7. The No. 3/4 Tide will host the No. 1 Bulldogs this Saturday.
