The soon-to-be open Florida football head coaching job is attracting some big-time names as potential candidates, but Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy is the early favorite according to Bovada. Some other notable names occupy the list, with former Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain at No. 2.
Mike Gundy, Florida head coach? He’s the betting favorite
Jim McElwain, Bob Stoops and Dan Mullen are also among the favorites.

| Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State | 4/1 |
| Jim McElwain, Colorado State | 9/2 |
| Bob Stoops, Oklahoma | 11/2 |
| Dan Mullen*, Mississippi State | 11/2 |
| Mike Shanahan, previously NFL head coach | 7/1 |
| Rich Rodriguez*, Arizona | 7/1 |
| Steve Spurrier, South Carolina | 8/1 |
| Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss | 9/1 |
| Gary Patterson, TCU | 12/1 |
| Gus Malzahn, Auburn | 12/1 |
Surprised by Gundy’s place atop the list? Don’t forget last December, when Bovada made a surprise prediction that ended up coming true when they placed Charlie Strong as the favorite for the Texas job. At the time, James Franklin, Art Briles and Gundy were largely considered the favorites.
Gundy may be wary to leave his alma mater, but he almost departed for an SEC school before. In December 2012, he reportedly nearly took the Tennessee job before electing to stay with the Cowboys.
Noticeably absent from the list are Arizona State’s Todd Graham and Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, both of whom have been mentioned as potential candidates. Noticeably present is Mike Shanahan, who wants the Michigan and/or Florida jobs and is not getting either of them.
*ESPN’s Brett McMurphy reported Monday that Mullen and Rodriguez are not candidates for the position.
