While it might not have anyone’s vote as the *best* league in the country this year, the Big 12 might have the most exciting race at the top of the conference. Five teams have shown an ability to play with anyone else (Baylor, TCU, Kansas State, Oklahoma and West Virginia) and both Oklahoma State and Texas have shown an ability to play up at times. This week, we get a matchup of two of those teams in West Virginia and Kansas State.
How to watch Kansas State vs. West Virginia: Game guide, TV/streaming, odds
It’s a battle for the mid-to-upper tier of the Big 12 in Morgantown.
After shocking everyone with a win over Baylor and close losses to Oklahoma and Alabama at the beginning of the year, West Virginia has fallen off a bit, losing close to TCU in a bit opportunity to gain some traction in the conference race and then losing to Texas. Now, the Mountaineers need to make sure things don’t fall apart even further, as they take on Kansas State.
The Wildcats won’t make the College Football Playoff this year after getting blown out by TCU two weeks ago, but they still have an opportunity to make a good bowl game and achieve a high ranking if they take down West Virginia and Baylor. They’ll start that quest this week.

The numbers
Rankings and records: The Wildcats rank No. 12 at 7-2, while WVU is 6-4.
Vegas: The line opened with an even spread, but West Virginia is now a 2.5-point favorite.
Weather forecast: Partly cloudy with a high of 34 and a low of 24.
Two things at stake
Kansas State needs a win to ascend back up the national rankings.
A win for West Virginia would assure fans that Dana Holgorsen has really turned the program around.
One big matchup
West Virginia defense vs. Kansas State offense: Dana Holgorsen’s teams have been known for their offense, and while the West Virginia offense has been solid this year, it’s the defense’s improvement that has really been the most impressive. That defense has to show up in this game for the Mountaineers to have any chance, and it needs to *lock* down on Tyler Lockett (sorry). That’s certainly not impossible, but it will take a solid defensive effort from WVU.
