South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier plans to return for an 11th season with the Gamecocks, the head coach told The State Monday. Spurrier also said he expects “almost all” of the staff to return, barring positions taken elsewhere. South Carolina’s defense ranked No. 112 in the F/+ this season and 12th in the SEC in scoring defense.

The head coach announced his plans Monday.

The all-time winningest head coach at both South Carolina and Florida, there were some rumors (that he laughed off) that Spurrier would return to fill the open coaching vacancy in Gainesville. There were still other rumors that the 69-year-old head coach would consider retiring after a disappointing 6-6 2014 campaign. But the Head Ball Coach will be coming back, and he thinks he’ll be in Columbia for a few more years.
“Give me two or three more,” he said. “I used to say four or five, now I’m down to two or three. I mean, I could get in a car wreck, but I’m definitely planning on being back.”
South Carolina won 11 games in each of the three previous seasons, and has an 83-45 record with Spurrier at the helm.
