Missouri defensive coordinator Dave Steckel is expected to be named the new head coach of FCS Missouri State, per the Springfield News-Leader and FootballScoop.
Missouri expected to lose DC Dave Steckel to Missouri State, per reports
After 14 years with Gary Pinkel, the defensive coordinator may finally get a shot at running his own show.

A finalist for the Broyles Award this season, Steckel has been on Gary Pinkel’s staff since he took over the Missouri job in 2001. The Springfield News-Leader reports Steckel is expected to accept a paycut from his listed salary of $600,000 with the Tigers.
Steckel’s defenses produced the SEC Defensive Player of the Year each of the last two seasons. Michael Sam won the award in 2013, while Shane Ray brought home the honors this season. Missouri won the SEC East in each of those two seasons.
Steckel would replace former Missouri State head coach Terry Allen, who was fired in late November after a 4-8 season with a 1-7 mark in Missouri Valley Conference play. In nine seasons with the Bears, Allen posted a 37-64 record.
Rock M Nation has two potential replacement candidates in mind for Missouri.
If Steckel does leave for Mo State, will be interesting to see if Pinkel promotes from within (Kul!) or tries to bring Barry Odom back.
