Thanks to the Camellia Bowl’s fourth quarter, bowl season is officially here

The opening day of bowl season wasn’t all that great. Until Bowling Green and South Alabama went to work in Montgomery, Alabama’s first-ever Camellia Bowl.

If you’re the sort of person who watched only one bowl game on Saturday, you probably didn’t pick the Camellia Bowl. The Camellia Bowl was the one to pick. Bowling Green won, 33-28, by the way.

A very brief rundown of just the last seven minutes:

USA head coach Joey Jones got kicked in the face and kept coaching anyway:

South Alabama, in its first-ever bowl game and in its home state, finished coming back from 20-7 down to take a 28-27 lead with a minute left, thanks in part to this Brandon Bridge heave to Danny Woodson (it felt like every other play in this game could be classified as a “heave”):

Bowling Green took a 33-28 lead 16 seconds later on a 78-yard catch-and-run from James Knapke to Roger Lewis:

This game also featured a field goal missed from the hypothetical one-inch line, Montgomery rowdies throwing things at officials, multiple big kick returns by men too large to be running back kicks, other general mayhem and nonsense, and a game-clinching roughing the punter penalty.

Also, the MAC’s and Sun Belt’s Twitter accounts talked meme trash to each other all game long. We’ll give the MAC the last word here.
