Florida president reportedly says he doesn’t ‘want another Charlie Weis’

Florida fans would probably agree, Bernie Machen.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

In 2011, failed Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis was hired as Will Muschamp’s first offensive coordinator at Florida. The Gators went 6-6 that regular season, finishing 105th in the nation in total offense (332.7 yards per game) and 71st in scoring offense (25.5 points per game). That led to Weis being hired as the head coach at Kansas, somehow, but Florida fans are wary of new head coach Jim McElwain making a similar hire.

So is Florida president Bernie Machen, apparently!

Florida probably has less to worry about offensively with McElwain, a highly successful offensive coordinator at Alabama who built one of the nation's most balanced offenses as the head coach at Colorado State. Never hurts to be too careful, though!
