UNLV has named high school coach Tony Sanchez as its new head football coach, according to a Sports Illustrated report. Sanchez replaces Bobby Hauck, who resigned after five seasons in charge. He is the eleventh head coach in the 46-year history of the program.

Sanchez has racked up an 85-5 record and won six consecutive state championships at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. The 40-year-old previously coached at San Ramon High School in northern California. He also has high school coaching experience in Texas and New Mexico. He played wide receiver at New Mexico State, and worked as a graduate assistant for the Aggies after graduation.

Hauck’s tenure in Las Vegas ended with his resignation last month. His Rebels won just two games in each of his first three seasons, but rebounded to earn a bowl berth in 2013. He earned a contract extension after that season, but his team reverted to its two-win form in 2014.
