Syracuse hasn’t been able to put away Villanova in the early going of their season-opening matchup against the FCS squad, and it won’t get any easier: Their starting quarterback, Terrel Hunt, opted to throw a punch at a Wildcat player, earning him an ejection and forcing the Orange to go with unproven freshman Austin Wilson.
Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt ejected for throwing punch vs. Villanova
Terrel Hunt was Syracuse’s only proven option at quarterback, but after a punch, he’s been ejected from their season opener against Villanova with the game in the balance.

Here’s the punch, which came with Syracuse up 10-7 in the second quarter:
They were on the ground, but it’s pretty obvious. Clear punch.
When our Syracuse blog, Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician, profiled the redshirt freshman Wilson back in June, they mentioned that it was unlikely he’d see the field this year, and he was down at fourth on the depth chart when Syracuse released one in July. But there weren’t many other options -- besides Hunt walk-on Troy Green, every QB on the roster is either a true or redshirt freshman.
They were banking on Hunt, a dual-threat senior who threw for 1,638 yards and ran for seven touchdowns last year. We’ll see if Wilson can step up and lead the team to victory in the wake of Hunt’s poor decision-making.
