Kansas fired head football coach Charlie Weis Sunday morning, embarking on its third head coaching search in less than six years. Kansas administrators let Mark Mangino go just two years after an Orange Bowl victory, making him the first Kansas head coach to leave with a winning record in 56 years. They replaced him with Turner Gill, then gave Gill just two seasons to right the ship before jettisoning him for the well-traveled Weis. The program holds an all-time winning record against just two of its conference opponents (Iowa State and Kansas State), has not won a conference title since 1968, and has an all-time record of 578-591-58. Who in his right mind would want to replace Weis in Lawrence?
Ed Orgeron wants the Kansas head coaching job
No word yet on whether the Jayhawks would lemsday.

Well, there’s one guy: Former USC interim head coach, former Ole Miss head coach and current bon vivant Ed Orgeron, via College Football Talk:
“It’s a Power Five (job),” Orgeron told George Schroeder of USA Today at a speaking engagement Monday in Little Rock, Ark. “(Mark) Mangino went 12-1 and went to the Orange Bowl. It’s in a great conference. His staff proved that you can do it.”
When asked if he really wanted to be Kansas’ fourth head coach seven years, Orgeron was undeterred.
“It’s a challenging job,” he said. “But most jobs you get, there’s gonna be some things you’re gonna have to fix.”
Orgeron was a failure in a three-year stint at Ole Miss, going 10-25 overall and 3-21 in the SEC. He resurrected his reputation by posting a 7-2 record after replacing the fired Lane Kiffin at USC last season. Orgeron was passed over for the permanent job, however, and had been sitting out this season. He is known as a dogged recruiter -- he played himself in the film adaptation of The Blind Side depicting his recruitment of Michael Oher at Ole Miss -- and a fiery motivator. Most importantly, he's interested.
