Residents of Toledo suburb Oregon, Ohio, had one simple request ahead of Jan. 12’s national championship game between Oregon and Ohio State. Two Oregon natives started a petition to change the town’s name to something more Buckeye-appropriate, and it appears they finally got their wish.
City of Oregon, Ohio changes name to CITY OF DUCK HUNTERS
You’ll probably want to postpone any letters until next week.
A Toledo Blade report Monday says Oregon Mayor Mike Seferian has changed the city’s name to “Oregon, Ohio Buckeyes on the Bay, City of Duck Hunters.” That will last for the next week, until the title game is decided the night of January 12.
Mayor Seferian originally said he would reject the proposal, citing the fact that the city got its name 21 years before the state. The petition reportedly received more than 2,000 signatures. This week has also been proclaimed “The Ohio State Buckeye Week” in the city of Oregon.
