Oregon WR Darren Carrington suspended for College Football Playoff Championship

Receiving options are getting slim for the Ducks ahead of their meeting with Ohio State on Monday.

Oregon wide receiver Darren Carrington has been suspended for failing a drug test, and he will miss the College Football Playoff Championship Game against Ohio State, according to Aaron Fentress of CSNNW.com. Carrington tested positive for marijuana.

Carrington was the Ducks' second-leading receiver this season, catching 37 passes for 704 yards and four touchdowns. The redshirt freshman had come on particularly strong as of late, going over 100 yards in both the Pac-12 title game and the Rose Bowl against Florida State. Against the Seminoles, he went off for seven receptions, 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Carrington's absence hurts double when compounded by the loss of Devon Allen, Oregon's third-leading receiver this year, who hurt his knee on the opening kickoff against Florida State. The Ducks will also be without their top tight end, Pharaoh Brown, who was lost for the season back in November. Things are getting awfully thin at receiving options behind Byron Marshall, something Marcus Mariota and the rest of the Ducks are surely concerned about.

As for the possible emergency return of No. 1 wide receiver Bralon Addison, who was lost to injury before the season began, Addison reportedly said he's "tempted" to suit up.

Otherwise, here’s Addicted to Quack on the next guys up:

Charles Nelson probably best replicates Carrington's big play ability, while Dwayne Stanford and Keanon Lowe have also played a lot this season. It will be interesting to see if the statuses of Allen and Carrington press Johnathan Loyd or BJ Kelley into action.
