Exactly which college football games to watch in Week 5, plus the full TV/streaming schedule

Week 4 was fun, wasn’t it? Oklahoma State, Florida and TCU each won tight games in the final minute. UCLA, Utah and USC absolutely blew out what was expected to be tough competition. And Michigan and Duke turned in surprisingly dominant performances against top-25 teams, while West Virginia emerged as a potential darkhorse Playoff contender.

With a quarter of the season already done (boo hoo), we’re starting to see some of the conference pictures form more into coherent shape. That’ll continue this week, with plenty of marquee league matchups, more than a few of which could have potential Playoff implications down the line.

There’s one ranked vs. ranked matchup in the early slate (for the first time this year!), one among the afternoon games and two at night.

Best option: No. 23 West Virginia at No. 15 Oklahoma, FOX Sports 1

Spread: Oklahoma -7

West Virginia has dismantled every opponent it has faced this season, including Georgia Southern and Maryland. The former is much more impressive than the latter [the author is a Terps fan]. The Sooners will offer a tougher test and tell us a little more about how good the ‘Eers really are.

Plan B: Texas at No. 4 TCU, ABC

TCU’s had a shaky start, but not quite as shaky as the Longhorns’. At least Texas knows how to score now, so there could be fireworks.

Best option: No. 13 Alabama at No. 8 Georgia, CBS

Spread: Georgia -2

If I need to sell you on this game, you’re probably in the wrong place.

Plan B: Texas Tech at No. 5 Baylor, ABC/ESPN2

Points! Lots and lots of points!

Best option: No. 6 Notre Dame at No. 12 Clemson, ABC

Spread: Even

The Irish are 4-0, but their best win (Georgia Tech) just lost to Duke. Clemson is 3-0 against three teams with a combined one win against FBS opponents.

Plan B: No. 21 Mississippi State at No. 14 Texas A&M, SEC Network

Mississippi State’s defense looks solid once again so far, but Texas A&M’s offense is an entirely different beast.

Best option: Arizona at No. 18 Stanford, Pac-12 Network

Spread: Stanford -14

Arizona’s not looking great while Stanford is looking quite good, so by Pac-12 law Stanford must lose this game.
