But when Fitzgerald called Igwebuike over to ask for an explanation, he didn’t realize that a nearby referee’s microphone was picking up his shouting.
Fitzgerald gestured wildly at his safety to come to the sideline, then asked Igwebuike, “You’re a half-field safety. Tell me what the f*ck you’re doing.”
The booing of the Nebraska crowd, apparently believing Fitzgerald was angry with the referee, nearly drowned out the F-bomb. Nearly.
The drive, extended by the pass interference penalty that set Fitzgerald off, led to a Nebraska go-ahead field goal. The Wildcats trail the Cornhuskers 22-20 at the end of three quarters.
