Luther Campbell, the rapper/high school football coach/godfather of swag for The U has spoken on the University of Miami’s newly open football coaching position.

Writing in The Miami New Times, where he is a regular columnist, Campbell offered the following names:

  • Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal;
  • Florida State tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Tim Brewster;
  • West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen;
  • Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops; and
  • Texas head coach Charlie Strong.

Campbell noted Cristobal’s connections to the U:

A Cuban-American and former Miami Hurricane national champion, Cristobal would be a perfect fit.

As for Strong:

Even though the University of Texas head coach said he is not interested in the Miami vacancy, James should still make an effort to talk to him. Strong knows how to recruit South Florida kids.

Stoops served as defensive backs coach from 2001-03, while Brewster and Holgorsen are both noted for their connections to high school coaches in South Florida.

Campbell had previously outlined a top five via twitter:

He also advises UM Athletic Director Blake James to consult former Canes players instead of the usual firms and committees that are so often involved in coach searches. Miami fired head coach Al Golden last Sunday following a 58-0 defeat by Clemson, the worst loss in program history.
