Jerry Kill’s emotional Minnesota retirement presser is so tough to watch

Good morning! It’s your wakeup roundup of college football stuff.

It was a somber day for the college football world, as Minnesota Golden Gopher head coach Jerry Kill announced that he would be retiring immediately due to health concerns.

“This is the toughest thing that I’ve ever done in my life,” he said while fighting back emotion.

Kill won 29 games in five years at Minnesota, winning eight games twice. He had previously taken a leave of absence due to recurring issues with epilepsy. Kill’s players had quite a lot to say about their beloved coach.

Settling the SEC divisional races: Georgia-Florida will likely decide the East this weekend, and Alabama-LSU next week will go a long way in the West, but there’s still more to play.

More than football. SB Nation Longform covers a 1980 rape scandal involving Oregon football players that changed free speech laws in the state forever.

Speaking of the SEC West, it may come as no surprise that it’s the highest-rated division in the game right now. As for the SEC East, well ... the SEC East might be the worst in the Power 5.

The Week in Schadenfreude enjoys the tough times of Florida State and Miami.

Wisconsin’s offense is ridiculously injured.

As for the week 9 matchups, get yourself ready with The Solid Verbal’s preview:

The Shutdown Fullcast discusses the USC job and dream NFL coach scenarios:

Uncle Luke speaks! The former 2 Live Crew front man lays out his top five potential head coaches for The U.

Speaking of interim head coaches, Conquest Chronicles details just what Clay Helton would have to do to keep the job in Troy beyond this season.

SMILE! If you aren’t happy for 7-0 Temple, you should be, because they’re having an historic season.

Getting better. Texas' defense is starting to come around under Charlie Strong, and Burnt Orange Nation is detailing the stats that show it.

Hey, quarterback Maty Mauk’s back. Will Mizzou have an offense now?

The Tailgate. Good Bull Hunting’s can’t miss graphical preview of the Aggies’ big game with South Carolina.

That seems pretty good. Remember that dramatic, last-minute touchdown that won Florida State the national championship two years ago? Turns out every player involved for the 'Noles is now playing in the NFL, and almost the entire defense, too.

TONIGHT. No. 5 TCU hosts West Virginia, and this series has meant madness so far. No. 23 Pitt welcomes North Carolina, and the loser falls to all of two losses. There’s #MACtion, there’s #FUNBELT and you should expect a tight thriller when Oregon visits Arizona State. This is a good Thursday.
