How to watch Oklahoma vs. Kansas on TV or online, plus 3 things to know

The Sooners are trying to climb back into the playoff race.

The 14th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (6-1, 3-1 in the Big 12) travel to Lawrence to take on the winless Kansas Jayhawks. The Sooners plummeted in the rankings after their loss to Texas, but blowouts over Kansas State and Texas Tech have them in position for the conference's final stretch, where OU will take on the conference leaders Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State.

Kansas is ... well ... bad. And the Sooners have won 10 straight in this series, with KU’s last win coming in 1997. The Sooners would be one hell of a trophy win for first-year head coach David Beaty.

The Sooner offense has been riding a hot streak on the arm of quarterback Baker Mayfield. The former Texas Tech walk-on has 25 combined passing and rushing touchdowns and ranks third in the nation in passer efficiency, averaging 9.8 yards per attempt. He's joined by tailback Samaje Perine, who has 621 yards this season, and Sterling Shepard, who ranks fourth in the conference in receiving with 549 yards on 32 catches.

Three big things to know

1. Mayfield for Heisman?

OU’s quarterback ranks in the top 20 in just about every major passing category with just four interceptions. What’s more, he’s spreading the ball around, with touchdown passes to nine different players, seven of which have at least 10 receptions. He’s been kind of lost in the Heisman discussion with all of the superstar running backs, but if he can lead the Sooners back to a Big 12 title and a potential playoff birth, he’ll be right in the mix.

2. Runnin’ wild

Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley has transitioned the Sooners away from the run somewhat after Perine's huge freshman season. But the Jayhawks allow more than 240 yards per game on the ground, and given that the passing game shouldn't meet much resistance, there may be a few more carries for Perine. He did break the NCAA single-game rushing mark against the Jayhawks last season, after all.

3. Eric Striker

Oklahoma’s ace pass-rushing linebacker has six sacks so far this season. Kansas has only allowed 18 on the season, but that adjusts to the 114th rate in the country in Bill Connelly’s advanced metrics. This could get ugly for Kansas’ quarterbacks if the Sooners really turn Striker loose.
