Nick Saban listens to 2 Live Crew? And more amazing revelations

Good morning! The college football weekend officially begins today, and here’s your morning roundup.

When you talk about “The U,” you think of names like Howard Schnellenberger, Jimmy Johnson, Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis. Former 2 Live Crew frontman Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell is right up there, but the University of Miami doesn’t seem to see eye-to-eye with him anymore.

SB Nation’s Steven Godfrey went down to Miami to find out exactly what Campbell thinks about the current state of The U, and much more.

The thing is, the administration is so far from that. They’re so hypocritical. Swag is something they did not want, ever. Dancing, partying, all the antics? No. Now they want to market that, but they tell the players, “No, no, don’t do that.” Kids come here for that! The kids come in thinking it’s the T-shirts. Then they get here and it’s, “Oh no, no. We’re not that anymore”’ You’re making them conform to something they aren’t.

When I go to Florida State, it’s a damn party. If I want a college atmosphere when I’m home, I’ll go see FAU.

Campbell is an assistant football coach at Miami’s Norland High School now, and he’s made it his business to try and help young men out of the South Florida area to college. That’s contributed to names like Devonta Freeman and Amari Cooper heading to Florida State and Alabama.

But hey, Luke will always have a fan in ... Nick Saban?

It was strange that Nick Saban knows who I am. That was strange. He walks up and he’s like, “Heeeey man! What’s up! Come up to the office!” So we get up there, and he’s like, “I listen to your music!”

Home away from home. Due to the flooding in South Carolina, the Gamecocks will now be playing LSU in Baton Rouge, in what will be considered a home game. South Carolina will receive all of the game’s profits, and LSU’s marching band is even working on playing the South Carolina alma mater.

The Week in Schadenfreude! Nebraska fans are out of patience with Mike Riley just five games into his tenure. Bet 9-4 doesn’t seem so bad now ...

Well, at least somebody’s fighting. Why did Auburn part ways with talented receiver Duke Williams? An alleged punching spree at an Auburn bar. Spencer Hall, for his part, is keeping track of punching across the SEC.

Just like they drew it up! Michigan and Iowa are pulling ahead in the Big Ten race, according to Bill Connelly’s projections.

Well that’s not very nice. Former Texas AD Steve Patterson caused Longhorn fans and boosters to send in pretty angry emails. Here are some of them.

Yes, that seems smart. Maybe Les Miles should keep giving Leonard Fournette carries?

B-E Aggressive? That seems to be the plan for the UCLA offense going forward.

Winning is fun. Especially for Northwestern right now.

What’s gone most wrong for Arkansas on offense? Nothing’s exploding.

Tonight! Houston welcomes SMU on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET, and the Cougars are getting in the rivalry spirit. Also, it’s Sark Bowl time, as USC coach Steve Sarkisian meets his former Washington players at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
