Beamer's last Thursday game. Virginia Tech came back to beat Georgia Tech 23-21, running Frank Beamer's record in Thursday games to 21-9 and 6-0 on Thursdays against the Yellow Jackets. More importantly, the Hokies are a win over North Carolina or Virginia from extending their 22-year bowl streak.
Frank Beamer leaves as the king of Thursday night football
Good morning, college football! It’s your wakeup roundup of stuff.

Beamer on Virginia Tech’s long tradition of being willing to play Thursdays:
“I like that it’s the only game on,” Beamer has said numerous times.
“I think when we [started playing Thursday night games in 1994], there was as much talk about the fans and the atmosphere, and we happened to play pretty good in a couple of them,” said Beamer. “It kind of gave us our identity here. It was a total program.”
Here come the pretzels! Nebraska fans were not too happy about the Cornhuskers’ loss to Purdue two weeks ago. They were angry enough to fire off 30 pages of emails to the school’s chancellor voicing their disple-- AND HERE COMES AN IOWA FAN EMAIL OFF THE TOP ROPE!
There's no D in "Baylor" or "Oklahoma." Saturday's biggest game, the first test for undefeated Baylor against potential Playoff crashers Oklahoma, could turn into an offensive onslaught. And while Baylor has dominated the series recently, there are two big reasons to hope for the Sooners.
Spreadtalkin'. College Football Gambling returns to offer college football gambling advice. PRO TIP: There won't be 14 points scored in Virginia-Louisville.
Hazell gets more green. It doesn’t sound like Purdue is going to change coaches this offseason, despite current head coach Darrell Hazell going 6-27 and 2-19 in the Big Ten over his three seasons in charge. Amazing what a win over Nebraska can do.
Eat your Venables. Clemson’s defense has been excellent under former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables, so good that the Tigers don’t seem to miss Chad Morris all that much. Is he the country’s best DC?
Cardale didn’t come here to play Uber. Dash-cam video of J.T. Barrett’s arrest for operating while intoxicated surfaced Thursday. The bad part: He tried to big time the cops. The great part: Cardale Jones comes to pick him up.
Huh. Florida State will start Everett Golson at quarterback against NC State Saturday, fueling speculation that Sean Maguire is injured.
Madness in Madison. Wisconsin running back Corey Clement, who already missed half the season with a hernia, cut his hand in an off-campus altercation at his apartment building.
In rumors that make no sense, is Charlie Strong leaving Texas for Miami? (Answer: lol no.) Is Dino Babers going to Maryland? (Answer: Why? He already beat them with his current team.)
Crootin’. The day’s biggest news: Oregon adds a four-star junior quarterback, Texas A&M picks up a stud running back who was committed to TCU, and Miami loses a longtime four-star linebacker commit.
The veer does present tough decisions for a 10-year-old. Oklahoma State quarterback J.W. Walsh filled out a fourth-grade questionnaire about decisionmaking the way you’d expect fourth-grade quarterback from Texas to fill out a questionnaire about decisionmaking.
Adams, fam. Oregon has been much, much better when Vernon Adams has been healthy enough to play. He’s healthy enough to play against Stanford this weekend and potentially upset the whole Pac-12 apple cart.
Oregon State: The tastiest cupcake. The Beavers are rolling out their creamsicle jerseys for this week's game against Cal.
Colin Cowherd has a point about Iowa, despite getting the facts wrong and being Colin Cowherd.
