Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds entered Saturday's game against SMU tied for the all-time FBS rushing touchdown record with former Wisconsin halfback Montee Ball. It took him just nine minutes to break the tie. Reynolds ran in a four-yard touchdown in the first quarter against the Mustangs for his 78th career rushing touchdown, a new record.

— CBS Sports Network (@CBSSportsNet) November 14, 2015 Reynolds broke the 77-touchdown mark posted by Ball in 2012, and is one of just six players to ever rush for 70 touchdowns. He becomes the first quarterback to hold the career rushing touchdown record in the modern era. Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch previously held the record for most touchdowns by a quarterback at 59.
There remains a possibility that the record is broken again this year, as Louisiana Tech halfback Kenneth Dixon currently has 70 touchdowns and ran for six last week. Reynolds is already distancing himself from the field, though: He added his 79th rushing touchdown later in the first quarter on a 43-yard run.
Reynolds would need five more touchdowns to match the all-time Division I rushing touchdown record, held by Georgia Southern’s Adrian Peterson with 84 touchdowns. The all-time college football record is held by Mount Union’s Nate Kmic, who ran for 125 career touchdowns.
