Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and Sterling Shepard hooked up for one of the better plays of this Saturday in college football midway through the second quarter of the Sooners' game at Baylor on Saturday night.
This Oklahoma touchdown right into the pylon camera is so awesome
TECHNOLOGY IS THE BEST.
Mayfield made a great throw off his back foot despite a heavy pass rush, and Shepard made a twisting catch, then made sure to knock over the pylon with the ball while falling out of bounds, scoring a touchdown that was upheld after replay.
But even better than the play itself is the ABC broadcast’s amazing shot captured by the camera in the pylon.
Incredible athleticism coming right at you in stunning high-definition is pretty cool even when it’s not from a field-level camera. With that? It’s just glorious.
Oh, and in case you want this to be the industry standard: The ESPN broadcast later showed other shots from a pylon cam from the angle parallel to the goal line, including an absolutely wonderful shot of a punt being downed.
So the pylon cam has an obvious practical application for teams -- supplementing an officiating crew -- in addition to capturing badassery for broadcasters.
