On this week’s SB Nation Selection Committee, Dan, Bud and Steven talk the pluses and minuses of Notre Dame’s case, what needs to happen for chaos and why the Big Ten résumés of Iowa and Ohio State have us playing the waiting game.
These are the 4 best college football teams as of right now
This week’s official College Football Playoff rankings come out soon (they’re out now), but ours are already here, and with 100 percent more Bud.
And this is committee member Bill Connelly on Notre Dame’s place in the Playoff discussion:
Like last year, we’ve reached a point where three teams (Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State) have separated themselves, and you’ve got a small handful of teams vying for the final spot. The top three could be laid out in almost any order, but the big question comes down to No. 4 at the moment.
And while I feel pretty strange picking Notre Dame over undefeated teams ... well ... ND’s only loss was tight and on the road against my No. 1 team. I think they’ve got a strong résumé, and quite simply, if you asked me to pick who would win between ND and Iowa, Oklahoma State, and the other No. 4 candidates, I’d pick the Irish.
