Michigan State vs. Ohio State 2015 odds: Buckeyes double-digit betting favorite

The Ohio State Buckeyes hope to remain undefeated and in control of a playoff spot as big favorites against the Michigan State Spartans.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Ohio State Buckeyes are 23-0 straight up and 12-11 against the spread in their last 23 games since losing to Virginia Tech back in September 2014. The Buckeyes will try to extend their stretch of dominance this Saturday against Michigan State.

Ohio State is a 13-point favorite at home on Saturday afternoon at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This is just the second time since 2009 that the Michigan State Spartans are a double-digit underdog.

It took some time, but the Buckeyes finally seem to be rounding into the form that took them to a championship last year. The Buckeyes are 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS over their last four games, outscoring opponents 143 to 34 over that stretch. Urban Meyer has settled on his quarterback in J.T. Barrett, and the defense continues to shine allowing only 13.8 points per game.

Now Ohio State will need to get the job done against its three toughest opponents of the season over the next three weeks. The Buckeyes are 9-2 SU and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games against Michigan State, per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Spartans vs. Buckeyes OddsShark Matchup Report

Michigan State’s playoff chances took a big hit when the Spartans lost to Nebraska on the road two weeks ago, but the Spartans could potentially get back into the picture with a road upset over Ohio State. The Spartans bounced back from the Nebraska loss with a strong performance in a 24-7 win over Maryland last week to improve to 3-1 ATS over their last four games. Michigan State is 8-4 SU and 10-1-1 ATS in its last 12 games as an underdog.

Saturday’s total is set at 52.5 points. The OVER is 6-0 in Michigan State’s last six games as the betting underdog.

Under head coach Mark Dantonio, the Michigan State Spartans always seem to rise to the occasion and play their best against elite opponents. While an outright upset over the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium doesn’t seem likely, the Spartans are good enough to make this a game and cover the spread as a 13-point road underdog on Saturday.
