What if Charlie Strong went to Miami, Nick Saban to Texas, and Dabo Swinney to Bama?

Good morning, it’s the Read Option. Here’s what’s going on in college football.

A Strong take. If Texas coach Charlie Strong left for Miami, it could benefit all involved. But Strong seems frustrated by even the idea of leaving Austin for Coral Gables.

This, again? If Strong did leave, Texas might once again pursue Nick Saban. Speaking of whom ...

Dabo Swinney and Alabama. “You don’t ever say never,” says the refreshingly honest Clemson coach about one day returning to his alma mater.

Tom Herman is officially expensive. In a bid to keep the country’s hottest coaching prospect at Houston, administrators have moved to more than double his salary there to $3 million, to start. South Carolina fans are wondering if their school will pay up to lure him away, while Maryland fans are pretty sure theirs can’t.

Good news from Mississippi. Ole Miss star Denzel Nkemdiche won't play against LSU this weekend, but his medical condition is not life-threatening. "His well-being is all that matters right now," said Rebels coach Hugh Freeze and the linebacker's parents in a joint statement.

The Buckeyes should roll. Unless Michigan State has tricks up its sleeve, Ohio State is the clear favorite on Saturday.

Riding toward the Playoff. Oklahoma State mega-donor T. Boone Pickens thinks the Cowboys will pass Notre Dame for a spot in the College Football Playoff if they don't lose in their last two games. He's probably right. Oklahoma State fans seem to agree: "If Oklahoma State goes 12-0, they will not be left out of the playoff," writes one. "They just won't."

Showdown in Stillwater. The Pokes’ Playoff plans depend on beating Baylor in an enormous game. Banged-up Bears QB Jarrett Stidham looks like he’ll play, and an Oklahoma State defensive end can smell blood.

Viewing plan. Michigan State-Ohio State and Baylor-Oklahoma State highlight the weekend in college football TV-watching. Plan out an entire day on the coach with our guide.

Gambling tips. If you’re the betting type, push in your chips on Ohio State, Michigan and Cincinnati, among others.

Stop doing this. Coastal Carolina tried to mimic that gruesome Indianapolis Colts trick play from last month. Shockingly, it didn’t work.

The SEC’s scheduling is not fun at all this week. What would be fun? A Big Ten-SEC challenge, like the one proposed by Arkansas coach Bret Bielema.

Tonight, Boise State tries to keep its conference title hopes alive against current division leader Air Force, and Cincinnati tries to avoid being passed up by USF.

Wide-open Pac-12 West. The Pac-12 South is still there for the taking, leaving USC to fight it out with UCLA and Utah.

The MAC West is open, too. Northern Illinois could wrap the division up against Ohio, but Toledo’s hanging around.

Postseason chaos. A bunch of bad five-win teams might make bowls, but it’s an incredibly confusing process.

Going dark. Florida State is playing Chattanooga on Saturday, so the Noles are spicing things up with alternate black uniforms. The helmets are pretty sweet.

Wisconsin’s last stand. The Badgers still have a very, very slim chance of catching Iowa in the Big Ten West. They’ll put that on the line against Northwestern on Saturday. Then again, Iowa can clinch by beating Purdue.

Penn State and Michigan have a high-stakes meeting on Saturday. We hope you like defense.
