The Georgia job is open, and college football’s coaching carousel just went wild

Good morning! It’s your daily digest of college football stuff.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The college football coaching carousel continues to turn, and the big news on Sunday was that Georgia has split with coach Mark Richt. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart is the Bulldogs’ top target. Star linebacker Leonard Floyd also tweeted that he’s leaving.

Georgia players on Twitter were not happy with the decision, and Dawg Sports has a lengthy case for firing the AD. Even Nick Saban couldn’t believe it, saying, “I don’t know what the world is coming to in our profession” on the SEC teleconference.

It was a big day for recruiting news, too. Four-star quarterback Feleipe Franks flipped from LSU to Florida, and four-star defensive back Lavert Hill decommitted from Penn State.

Grad transfer QB. Quarterback Patrick Towles is transferring from Kentucky after being benched at the end of the season.

Bowl projections. Oklahoma is locked into a Playoff spot, and if everything goes as planned next weekend, the rest is pretty straightforward.

Scarlet to crimson. Oklahoma is rolling, and the Sooners look like this year’s Ohio State.

The LSU-Les Miles situation was bizarre, and bizarre is where Les Miles thrives. Check out the complete timeline of that saga.

Deflated. Eastern Michigan finished the season 1-11, then its practice facility collapsed.

Hold the Champaign. With its haphazard hire, Illinois showed that it doesn’t care about football, says The Champaign Room.

Seminoles rolling. The Florida State offense has improved dramatically over the course of the season, and that was evident against Florida.

Toilet bowl. Nebraska is 5-7 but is still likely to go bowling. Corn Nation breaks down the scenarios.

Party like it’s 1995. Northwestern is finally the program that Pat Fitzgerald wants it to be.

Sparty On. Michigan State’s offense is looking really good, especially with Connor Cook back.

Blue ending. Michigan had a great season, but has some tough questions going forward.
