Bama has a high Playoff spot, which it’ll either earn or lose this weekend. So why stress?

Good morning! This is your wakeup roundup of college football stuff.

The College Football Playoff rankings are out. Maybe you heard. Maybe you have opinions vis-à-vis Alabama’s inclusion in the top four. Is it justified? The numbers think so. But people are tired of it. (Bama fans are too busy laughing at everyone who’s mad about the Tide’s ranking.)

But one thing is for sure: The picture is about to get very clear. The Big 12’s contenders will all knock each other out in the coming weeks, and LSU meets Alabama Saturday night in a game that will show which of the SEC’s top teams belongs in the Playoff discussion.

Speaking of the Playoff, three more cities for the National Championship game were announced. When’s the Midwest get a turn?

Speaking of speaking, Jeff Long is not particularly good at explaining why the Playoff committee does some things.

The Week in Schadenfreude features Georgia fans questioning which higher power they have offended.

SB Nation Longform explores North Dakota State, the four-time defending FCS champions, enduring a difficult season for the first time in a long time.

June Jones back? Mountain West Connection reports the Hawaii job can be his again, if he doesn’t cost too much.

Thursday Night Football! Tonight, No. 6 Baylor has about every advantage conceivable at Kansas State, Mizzou has pulled a clever trick on Mississippi State’s defense by being awful at offense, Arkansas State and Appalachian State basically play the Sun Belt championship and more.

Wednesday Night Football! Bowling Green obliterated Ohio, surely much to the delight of this fan in the crowd blowing an extremely loud horn all over the TV broadcast.

The new Shutdown Fullcast advises you to get as angry as possible about the Playoff rankings and previews a loaded Saturday:

The Tailgate: Good Bull Hunting’s weekly graphical preview takes aim at the Aggies’ matchup with Auburn. Meanwhile, Ian Boyd is wondering whether new quarterback Kyler Murray can fix the Texas A&M running game.

Time to go? Dawg Sports is starting to ask the question on Mark Richt.

Cal might have the best QB in the country, but Jared Goff hasn’t been playing like it. Are we worried or no?

Open jobs: How do they stack up? Bill Connelly, Steven Godfrey and Bud Elliott rank the 10 current openings across college football. Who’s after USC and Miami?

Bad job? Is Hawaii one? Matt Brown and Jason Kirk debate the pros and cons. All of the pros are just photos of Hawaii.

How about The U? State of the U makes the case for two potential candidates, Mark Richt and Tom Herman. Meanwhile, Burnt Orange Nation is asking what it would be like if Charlie Strong was interested in the opening in Miami.

As for Virginia Tech, Gobbler Country has a great compilation of potential candidates to replace Frank Beamer.

Here’s a job that’s not open: Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell seems headed for a fourth season.
