Clemson was driving late in the first half against Florida State and seemed to have a really good chance of tying up the game with a touchdown.
Clemson’s QB thought Dabo Swinney was telling him to spike the ball. Nope!
... uh, what?
Instead, Deshaun Watson spiked the ball on third down ... with 33 seconds to go in the half ... and a timeout in hand.
Dabo Swinney appeared to signal “let’s go” to Watson, which his sophomore quarterback misinterpreted. And, after the fact, he was understandably miffed by the development.
The Tigers did kick a field goal after the spike to cut the Seminoles’ lead to 10-6, but FSU’s official Twitter account was grateful for the good fortune.
Thanks?
