After all of the fuss that came after Alabama’s early season home loss to Ole Miss, it ended up being just another year of dominance for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide.
Alabama finished the regular season with one of the best defenses in the nation -- allowing only 14.3 points per game -- and Derrick Henry emerged as another elite back for the Crimson Tide with 1,797 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns. Henry’s 271-yard performance last week led Alabama to a 29-13 win over Auburn, ending the year on a 4-0 ATS run.
The Crimson Tide is 5-0 SU and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five games against SEC opponents away from home, per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida Gators
When: Saturday, Dec. 5, 4 p.m. ET
Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Ga.
Betting Line / Total: Alabama -17 / 39.5 Points
The Gators have been a defense-first team all season long, but when starting quarterback Will Grier was suspended midseason the offense became virtually non-existent.
As opposing teams made adjustments against the Gators, Florida averaged a paltry 13.8 points per game in the month of November, including a desperate overtime win over Florida Atlantic two weeks ago and a 27-2 loss to the Florida State Seminoles last week. The Gators ended the year on a 4-2 SU and 2-4 ATS down tick after opening with a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS record.
Saturday’s total is set at 39.5 points. The UNDER is 5-0 in Florida’s last five games as the defense has continued to play well through the offense’s struggles.
Florida’s abysmal offense against Alabama’s elite defense looks like a recipe for disaster. Alabama should cruise to another easy win and cover over the Gators this Saturday to secure the SEC championship.
