Iowa LB thinks Big Ten prepared Hawkeyes well for Stanford’s offense

Iowa LB Cole Fisher handled Big Ten offensive linemen all season. He isn’t expecting much different from Stanford or Outland Trophy winner Joshua Garnett.

Bob Stanton-USA TODAY Sports

No. 6 Stanford offensive guard Joshua Garnett won the 2015 Outland and Morris Trophies as the nation’s top interior lineman and the Pac-12’s best offensive lineman, respectively. That was enough to help guide the Cardinal to a Rose Bowl date against No. 5 Iowa. It wasn’t enough to impress Hawkeye linebacker Cole Fisher.

Fisher finished second on his team and sixth in the Big Ten with 112 tackles in 2015. His Hawkeyes allowed fewer than 115 rushing yards per game en route to a 12-1 season. They also faced a lineup filled with hoss-filled offensive lines from teams like Wisconsin, No. 13 Northwestern, and No. 3 Michigan State.

On New Year’s Day, they’ll face Garnett and a Stanford offensive line that cleared the holes through which Heisman runner-up Christian McCaffrey gained 1,847 yards.
