Idaho football honors scholarship of recruit diagnosed with cancer

A great decision by the school and coaching staff.

Amidst the competition leading up to National Signing Day, it’s easy to miss the stories that remind you that there are something more important than football.

17-year-old Jace Malek had dreamed of playing football for the Idaho Vandals for years, but then he was diagnosed with cancer after doctors found a tumor in his hip. Malek contacted the coaching staff, expecting them to have to pull his scholarship offer.

Instead, they told him, “Idaho is not leaving your side.”

Spokane, North Idaho News

Doctors aren’t sure Malek will be able to play football again, but he signed his letter of intent with the Vandals on Wednesday anyway.

Good luck Jace!
