New book says yep, Nick Saban really wanted to leave for Texas

Good morning! It’s your daily digest of this weekend’s college football news.

Reliving Saban-to-Texas. Nick Saban is still at Alabama, but a year and a half ago, rumors swirled that the Crimson Tide coach could head to Texas. A New York Times excerpt of a new book on Saban reveals he was very interested, at very least according to the Texas side.

In December 2012, as Nick Saban was preparing Alabama to face Notre Dame in college football's national championship game, a University of Texas regent named Wallace Hall received a phone call from a friend.

'It was out of the blue,' Hall says. 'He is a U.T. alum, a very well-thought-of, very successful guy who really isn't a huge fan of football.' The man, whom Hall has refused to name, also happened to be a good friend of Saban's agent, Jimmy Sexton. 'My friend told me, "I don't know how to put this any other way: Nick Saban wants to come to Texas,"' Hall says.

The USC mystery. Do you think USC has too much talent to struggle again? Have the Trojans already showed they can't get enough out of this group? Either way, you might be right about the 2015 team, writes Bill Connelly.

STOP ADIDAS. Adidas continuously insists on making college teams wear absolutely hideous uniforms. (Tennessee sure seems happy about being a Nike school now.)

Free food. Texas slashes free lunches for its coaches, despite being insanely rich. So here’s a list of schools that have given free food to our own Steven Godfrey.

Half the Big 12 wanted to leave for the Big Ten, according to a new report:

Big Ten football fans, see if the following slate of conference games would interest you:

Oklahoma vs. Wisconsin; Nebraska vs. Texas A&M; Iowa vs. Iowa State; Minnesota vs. Kansas.

Trouble in Gainesville. It wasn’t a great weekend for Florida players and the legal system. Two were cited for leaving a bowling alley without paying for food, while wide receiver Alvin Bailey was arrested for failure to appear.

Just win, baby. Al Golden has had a rough few years at Miami, and Hurricanes fans are restless. UM athletic director Blake James was blunt about that: "Al knows he needs to win," he said.

North Dakota’s getting a new nickname. Things are going bad.

CROOTIN’. The biggest news from a busy weekend:
