Last weekend, there sure was college football! We were gifted another BYU Hail Mary, a MAC-over-SEC upset, GLITTERY HELMETS and nearly the biggest upset ever. That turned what looked like a weak schedule into a memorable weekend, which is how it always seems to work.

Other than the weak noon slate, this is a solid Saturday, led by two large ranked battles and more outbreaks of conference action.

On paper, Week 3 looks even better. After a pair of potentially interesting weeknight ACC games, we’ve got four ranked vs. ranked games on Saturday, with No. 14 Georgia Tech at No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 15 Ole Miss at No. 2 Alabama the headliners. The early shift is particularly light (maybe you should sleep in late on Saturday and go out for a nice lunch), but there some good games later on, especially with some conferences starting league play early.

Plan B: Air Force at No. 4 Michigan State, ABC
I really don’t know what to say. Look, I didn’t schedule the games, okay?
Keep it in mind: Illinois at North Carolina, ESPN2

Middle shift
Best option: No. 14 Georgia Tech at No. 8 Notre Dame, NBC
Spread: Georgia Tech -2.5
Georgia Tech scored 134 points in its first two games, running straight over Alcorn State and Tulane and looking quite similar to an unstoppable death machine. The Yellow Jackets are averaging an absurd 8.5 yards per carry, but this should be a significant step up.
Notre Dame is without star quarterback Malik Zaire after an ankle injury, but backup DeShone Kizer started his tenure with a game-winning touchdown pass.
Plan B: No. 18 Auburn at No. 13 LSU, CBS
Auburn’s 2-0 start isn’t looking so hot. Gus Malzahn’s squad beat Louisville (now 0-2) and FCS Jacksonville State (still FCS Jacksonville State) by a touchdown each, and there’s reason to be concerned about a Malzahn offense without a mobile QB. LSU has quarterback questions of its own, but one of the best running backs in the country in Leonard Fournette. Auburn’s defense? Not concerned.
Keep it in mind: Memphis at Bowling Green, ESPN3
Two of the top non-power programs and two of the country’s hottest head coaching prospects. On one side: Bowling Green, with one of the nation’s fastest-paced offense and a quarterback on a record pace, fresh off a road win over Maryland. On the other: Memphis, a team built on the strength of its defense. Memphis head coach Justin Fuente acknowledged Bowling Green would be a “significant step up” after playing Kansas.
In case of emergency: Nebraska at Miami (FL), ABC/ESPN2
A few decades ago, this would’ve been a marquee matchup. Now you’ve got a rebuilding Nebraska and a Miami in serious trouble. But hey, uh, it’s still Nebraska-Miami!
Late shift
Best option: No. 15 Ole Miss at No. 2 Alabama, ESPN
Spread: Alabama -7
Ole Miss can’t keep scoring 75 points a game, right? Both have cruised so far, but while Alabama has had the more difficult schedule, the Rebels have been hard to ignore. Also, this game was super fun last year.
Plan B: No. 19 BYU at No. 10 UCLA, FS1
BYU has won 100 percent of games this season by Hail Mary. There is no way that won’t continue!!
Keep it in mind: South Carolina at No. 7 Georgia, ESPN
South Carolina looks really bad, which means it’s definitely going to beat Georgia. Don’t argue, it’s the law.
In case of emergency: Stanford at No. 6 USC, ABC
Please, watch something else. Punting is evil, and Stanford does a lot of it.
