Utah is handing out pictures of former Utes quarterback Alex Smith’s head to fans on their way into the school’s home opener against Michigan, in an apparent attempt to taunt Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh.
Utah trolls Jim Harbaugh with Alex Smith heads, for some reason
How do you get under the skin of a coach? By reminding him of a probably-correct decision he made at his last job, that’s how!

— Utah Athletics (@utahathletics) September 3, 2015 Smith had been the first overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft out of Utah. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh benched, and eventually traded, Smith while coaching the 49ers. Smith’s replacement, Colin Kaepernick, led the 49ers to the Super Bowl, so Harbaugh probably doesn’t regret his decision.
Nevertheless, Utah fans are ready to remind Harbaugh of that slight.

— Ben Anderson (@BenKFAN) September 3, 2015 There are other potential reasons why Utah did this. Smith had played at Utah for now-Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, so this could be a meta-joke. Or, better yet, an Ohio State plant.
Either way, these guys are enjoying it!

Utah and Michigan kickoff at 8:30 p.m. ET, with television coverage on Fox Sports 1. If you want more Alex Smith, his Chiefs are in preseason action against St. Louis.
