After Saturday's last-second victory over Nebraska, BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall handed out three game balls. The third went to quarterback Taysom Hill, who was knocked out of the game with a foot injury. Hill was later diagnosed with a season-ending Lisfranc fracture, and when Mendenhall's speech turned to his senior quarterback, it got a bit dusty in the locker room:

“There is no one that I respect more that I’ve ever coached, or just as a person,” says Bronco Mendenhall.
“There is no one that I respect more that I’ve ever coached, or just as a person, so we’ll do what we can to help,” said a clearly emotional Mendenhall.
Hill missed much of the 2012 season and the last eight games of 2014 with a knee injury. He suffered Saturday’s foot injury on a second-quarter touchdown run, and returned after missing just three plays. After taking a hit in the fourth quarter, he left the game for good. He finished with 360 yards of total offense, two touchdown passes and the aforementioned touchdown run.
Backup quarterback Tanner Mangum completed a Hail Mary on the game’s final play to give the Cougars an improbable 33-28 win at Nebraska, snapping the Cornhuskers’ 29-year opening game winning streak.
