College football odds, Week 2: LSU, Michigan State among early favorites

LSU at Mississippi State and Oregon at Michigan State are among the top betting matchups in this week’s college football action.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games against SEC opponents. The Bulldogs will try to continue that success at home, hosting the LSU Tigers this Saturday night.

Mississippi State is a 3-point home underdog against LSU according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In each of their last two games as a home underdog, the Bulldogs have come away with an outright win, topping Auburn 38-23 as a 2.5-point underdog last year and Ole Miss as a 3.5-point home dog in 2013.

LSU, after getting its Week 1 game canceled due to weather, will be making its season debut against a Bulldogs team that picked up a 34-16 win in its tune-up against Southern Miss over the weekend.

After opening as a pick’em, the line has quickly moved in the home team’s favor in Saturday’s matchup between Oregon and Michigan State in East Lansing. Michigan State is now a 3.5-point favorite at home coming off a 37-24 road win over Western Michigan. Oregon beat Eastern Washington 61-42 at home on Saturday and is 12-1 SU in its last 13 September road games.

BYU provided the highlight moment of college football’s opening weekend when it converted on a Hail Mary pass at the end of regulation to pull off a road upset over Nebraska. The Cougars lost Heisman hopeful quarterback Taysom Hill for the season and will now turn the ball over to freshman Tanner Mangum under center.

Mangum and the Cougars are a 3-point home underdog hosting the Boise State Broncos on Saturday.

Oklahoma is on the road against Tennessee this Saturday in a game that is currently going off as a pick’em. Both teams won and covered in their season openers at home. The Sooners are 5-4 SU and 2-7 ATS in their last seven games against SEC opponents according to the OddsShark College Football Database.

The Stanford Cardinal and Central Florida Knights were both upset as double-figures favorites last week, with Stanford falling 16-6 on the road against Northwestern and UCF falling at home to Florida International 15-14.

Both teams will try to bounce back when the Knights visit the Cardinal this Saturday night. Stanford is 28-2 SU and 16-12-2 ATS in its last 30 games as a double-digit home favorite. The Cardinal are a 17-point favorite in this one.
