Alabama vs. Clemson odds, 2016 College Football Playoff title game: Tide TD favorite

The College Football Playoff comes down to the last two teams as underdog Clemson and favored Alabama battle for the championship.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Alabama Crimson Tide are 4-0 straight up and against the spread in their last four games against ACC opponents. The Crimson Tide will be going for their fourth national championship in the last seven years this Monday night against the Clemson Tigers in Glendale, Arizona.

Alabama is a 7-point betting favorite in the championship game according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Clemson Tigers are 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a betting underdog.

Squaring off against the Michigan State Spartans in the College Football Playoff semifinals, the Alabama Crimson Tide made it look like they were playing a tune-up game in early September.

Alabama coasted to a 38-0 victory, totally dominating the game on both sides of the ball. Derrick Henry only had to rush 20 times for 75 yards as Jake Coker completed 25 of his 30 passes for 286 yards and a touchdown.

Over the team’s last six games, the Crimson Tide are 5-1 ATS per the OddsShark College Football Database. Alabama has allowed only 9.3 points per game over that stretch.

Crimson Tide vs. Tigers OddsShark Matchup Report

If there was any doubt about how good the Clemson Tigers are, that doubt should have been squashed after Clemson’s 37-17 win over the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma was averaging 52 points per game over a 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS run leading up to this game, but Clemson’s physical defense over-matched the Sooners and paved the way for the Tigers’ convincing upset win as a 3.5-point underdog.

Despite a 14-0 SU record, the Tigers still find themselves as an underdog heading into the championship game. Monday’s total is set at 50.5 points. The UNDER is 9-4 in Clemson’s last 13 games against SEC opponents.

Last season, Oregon and Ohio State topping Florida State and Alabama proved that the playoff was needed to give those deserving lower seeds a shot. But in 2015, the top two seeds have left no doubt that they are the best two teams in college football. Alabama and Clemson will clash for all of the marbles on Monday, and in what should be an excellent defensive matchup, take the Tigers at +7 to keep this one close down the stretch.
