Virginia has Louisville on upset alert thanks in part to this sweet hurdle
Not so fun when you’re the one getting hurdled, huh, Cardinals?
That’s Virginia receiver Doni Dowling bounding over a Louisville defender, setting up a touchdown that put the Cavaliers up, 17-7, over the No. 5 Cardinals in the third quarter.
Minutes later, Heisman Trophy favorite Lamar Jackson — who has a relatively pedestrian 242 yards on the day — threw a bad interception that didn’t result in any points for the Hoos, but that did take a little more time off the clock and foul up a field position opportunity.
Seeing as Louisville entered as 34-point favorites, this might rank as the biggest upset of the entire 2016 season, if UVA can hang on.
Head coach Bobby Petrino entered the half upset about a series of holding calls that went against Louisville during a crucial drive.
Making this whole thing even more bitter for Louisville: hurdling folks is one of Jackson’s specialties. He’s been doing it since high school:
Louisville entered the day a game behind Clemson in the ACC standings and in need of a little help to crash the ACC Championship and thus have a chance at the College Football Playoff. A loss to Virginia would all but lock up the division for the Tigers, whether they can beat Florida State later Saturday or not.
