Hitting the end zone pylon from 55 yards away should be worth a point

Nice throw, kid.

The first half of The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party has been many things, but a party is not one of them. Thankfully, Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason saved us with something that looked like offense with this 55ish-yard bomb that nailed the pylon late in the first half.

Don’t let the 14-10 halftime score trick you into thinking that there’s been actual offense in this showdown through the first stanza. Things headed to the intermission with just 250 yards of total offense between the two teams. It is unfortunately on-brand for college football’s most unpredictable rivalry game.

In situations such as this I think it’s worth incentivizing fringe football things to deliver scoring that is otherwise not there. Maybe a sack could be worth three points, a juke move could give you a 1.5 multiplier, or something along those lines. this is the country that put a man on the moon; the least we can do is jazz up an otherwise tooth-pulling college football game.

I’m not opposed to amending the rules of football to give Eason greater credit for these heroics. It won’t show up on the stat sheet, but I’m pretty comfortable saying it’ll be the offensive play of the day.
