Will Muschamp is now 7-0 against the Tennessee Volunteers, a streak that started when the South Carolina coach was at Florida and has continued at South Carolina.

The 7-0 streak started when Derek Dooley was the Vols’ head coach. It continued through the entire Butch Jones era and has now claimed Jeremy Pruitt as well.

  • 2011: Florida 33, Tennessee 23: This was the opener, a leisurely win against a bad Dooley team.
  • 2012: Florida 37, Tennessee 20: ESPN’s College GameDay was in Knoxville for the first time since 2006 this season, and even Lee Corso picked the Vols.
  • 2013: Florida 31, Tennessee 17: Jones stepped up to replace Dooley this year. Florida lost starting quarterback Jeff Driskel to a broken leg early, and his backup, Tyler Murphy, scored two touchdowns.
  • 2014: Florida 10, Tennessee 9: Neyland Stadium started chanting “F*** you, Florida” afterward, and Muschamp was particularly happy to get them all riled up:
  • 2016: South Carolina 24, Tennessee 21: Muschamp took over the Gamecocks after a year as an Auburn assistant. This was South Carolina’s first win against UT since 2012 under Steve Spurrier. That marked the Vols’ third straight SEC loss and dropped them two spots down from the eventual East champion Gators, whom Tennessee had beaten.
  • 2017: South Carolina 15, Tennessee 9: The Gamecocks won a field goal fest, despite the Vols having three red zone possessions in the first half and another in the final minute.
  • 2018: South Carolina 27, Tennessee 24: Pruitt’s Vols led 14-3 at one point, but the Cocks clawed back to kick a field goal in the fourth and then recover a fumble.

Five times in those seven games, UT’s offense hasn’t gotten to 300 yards.

In four of the last five, the Vols have gotten 205 yards or fewer. Muschamp’s defenses have often completely shut them down, year after year.

Good luck next year, Vols.
