No. 23 Florida beat No. 16 LSU, 16-10, on Saturday afternoon, and they did it in pretty exciting fashion. With three seconds to go, LSU was facing fourth-and-goal from Florida’s one-yard line. Tigers running back Derrius Guice tried to go over the top to punch it into the end zone, but Florida’s defense came up huge and made the stop.
Florida’s goal-line stand to beat LSU left its radio announcer exasperated
“The Gators have won the game!”

Mick Hubert, who’s been Florida’s radio announcer since the 1990s, is known for his signature calls. The one he gave on Saturday did not disappoint, either. Seriously, even if you aren’t a Florida fan, this will give you chills.
“He didn’t get there! He did not get there! The Gators have stopped him, and the Gators have won the game,” he exclaimed, and then only got even more emotional.
With the victory, Florida clinched the SEC East and will be headed to Atlanta for the second straight year.
The game marked a long-awaited contest, after the original date of Oct. 8 was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew. After the victory, both Jim McElwain and the Florida players didn’t forget the things that were said about Florida deciding to postpone the game due to the hurricane, such as ...
McElwain addressed some of this stuff in his post game interview.
“They got some guts, they got some pride,” he said after the win. “They were called out. And you know what amazes me? People call people out when there’s actual tragedy happening. Unbelievable to me.”
There was also this, from Florida cornerback Teez Tabor.
The Gators took another by singing one of LSU’s rap fight songs that used to be sung before football games in Tiger Stadium.
Apparently, LSU doesn’t play the song in the stadium anymore, but that didn’t stop the whole team from singing it in the locker room after the big victory.
Now, Florida gets to go back to Atlanta for the SEC Championship against Alabama, and the even better long-term part for the Gators? Thanks to LSU switching the venue to Baton Rogue, the next two games in this rivalry will be played in Gainesville.
