The Pitt football team will play Northwestern in this year’s Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 28 (2 p.m. ET, ESPN). College football players can’t get paid, but they can accept bowl gifts, which range from cool to not. The Pinstripe Bowl’s sponsor is apparel company New Era, so there’s going to be a good deal of athletic swag here.
Pitt coaches dressed up as Santa and an elf to give players their bowl gifts
Pinstripe Bowl, Pinstripe Bowl, Pinstripe allll the way.
Pitt convinced Santa Claus to stop into the team’s facility with the delivery.
“Santa Claus” in this case is Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi, and the elf he brought with him is Pitt tight ends coach Tim Salem. Who can tell if it was deliberate, but it’s a credit to Salem that he dressed up so similarly to Will Ferrell in my favorite Christmas movie ever, Elf. That’s a fantastic film.
The gifts seem fine, I’d say: a bunch of workout gear that’s probably quite comfortable, a backpack, and a nice winter hat because New York is cold in the winter.
Nick Saban must do this before the Peach Bowl, and Alabama must videotape it and also provide the footage to the world.
