Maryland and Boston College are not particularly good this year. Both are 6-6, and they’re 6-6 mostly because they’ve played a bunch of terrible opponents. Maryland lost a combined 121-6 to Ohio State and Michigan, while Boston College lost a combined 153-24 to Louisville, Clemson, and Florida State. They can’t compete with top teams.
Maryland vs. Boston College, 2016 Quick Lane Bowl: Time, live stream, TV schedule, and 3 things to know
The Terps and Eagles are both trying to cap off imperfect but helpful seasons with a win.

But there’s a caveat: It used to be much worse. Maryland and BC are coming off 3-9 seasons. Maryland fired Randy Edsall and ultimately replaced him with uber-recruiter D.J. Durkin, and Steve Addazio’s wins-doubling year has cooled down his hot seat considerably. Maryland, in particular, is adding talent quickly and should be pretty decent, pretty soon. BC’s gotten a bit better.
These teams are playing in the Quick Lane Bowl on Monday. It’s not going to be a good game, almost certainly. But that isn’t the point. Maryland and BC are making progress, and Monday is about squeezing out as much extra progress as possible. Someone will.

Spread: Boston College opened as a 1-point favorite. Most books now consider Maryland a tiny favorite, but this is basically a toss-up.

Three big things to know
1. It’s the last ride for a couple of senior quarterbacks. Maryland’s Perry Hills has been in College Park for five years, and he’s been Maryland’s starting QB for three of them, under three different head (or interim) coaches and two offensive coordinators. He’s been oft-injured, and his stats haven’t been great. But he’s been a good Terp. Patrick Towles, who came to BC this year as a grad transfer from Kentucky and promptly dedicated his season to a dead gorilla, is playing his last college game, too. Neither is really an NFL prospect, so this is just about the end of the line.
2. The interesting matchup is when Maryland has the ball. You don’t want to watch Boston College play offense. You don’t want to watch Maryland play defense. Not that the teams’ other units are awesome, but they are fine. Maryland has a pair of great sophomore skill players in receiver D.J. Moore and running back Ty Johnson. Boston College can stop the ball a bit. Watch those guys go head-to-head, and it’ll be fine.
3. This is a brief renewal of an old series, as Maryland shared the ACC with Boston College between 2005 and 2013. The series is 8-3 in Boston College’s favor, with nine of the 11 games happening in ACC play. The last one was in 2013, when Edsall called a timeout to ice a Boston College kicker at the last moment. The kicker missed a kick that turned out not to count, then nailed the game-winner moments later. It was the worst of times, if you (like me) were a Maryland student.
