Northwestern’s honoring alum Craig Sager with appropriately plaid helmet stickers
Sager graduated from Northwestern in 1973.
The NBA community lost one of its brightest stars when heralded TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager passed away in December after a years-long battle with a rare form of leukemia.
But it wasn’t just the NBA who lost one of its iconic figures. Sager graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in speech in 1973. He was among many successful Northwestern sports reporters, including Michael Wilbon, J.A. Adande, and Rachel Nichols.
On Wednesday, 6-6 Northwestern takes on No. 22 Pittsburgh (8-4) in the Pinstripe Bowl, and it’s only suiting that Sager’s alma mater pays tribute to one of its distinguished alumni on the brightest stage of its season.
The Wildcats will wear a sticker on their helmets honoring Sager for his outstanding work during and after his time at Northwestern. The university joins a host of sports figures and teams to pay their respects to the always-cheery personality, and it was only fitting they celebrate his life in their bowl game on Wednesday.
Sager’s positive energy impacted the lives of almost everyone he came in touch with, and the Northwestern Wildcats are reminding people that even though he may be gone, Craig Sager will never be forgotten.
