Ohio State vs. Oklahoma 2016 odds: Buckeyes betting favorite, even on the road

The road-favored Ohio State Buckeyes face the Oklahoma Sooners in a game between two of college football’s best teams on Saturday night.

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

The Ohio State Buckeyes are a perfect 18-0 straight up in their last 18 games on the road with a 12-6 record against the spread over that stretch. The Buckeyes will attempt to make it 19 wins in a row on the road this Saturday night in Norman against the Oklahoma Sooners.

Ohio State is a 1-point road favorite on Saturday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In the team’s last game as a 1-point road favorite, the Buckeyes crushed Michigan 42-13 in the Big House last season.

Despite starting off their national title defense last year with a 10-0 SU record, the Buckeyes were just 4-6 ATS and never looked as sharp as they did in 2014. A 17-14 loss at home to the Michigan State Spartans ended the Buckeyes’ 23-game winning streak and cost the team a playoff spot.

Ohio State is 4-0 SU and ATS since that loss and has outscored its two opponents this season 125-13. A road win over Oklahoma would put the Buckeyes firmly in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot in 2016.

Since 1997, the Buckeyes have played nine games against Big 12 opponents, going 7-2 SU and 6-3 ATS in those nine games per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Ohio State -1 / 63 Points

Trend: Oklahoma is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games in September.

Trend: Ohio State is 18-0 SU in its last 18 games on the road.

After losing to the Texas Longhorns as a 16.5-point favorite last season, the Sooners reeled off a 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS record over their last seven games of the regular season to secure a College Football Playoff berth.

Oklahoma is hoping to end its regular season on another undefeated run after dropping its season opener to the Houston Cougars 33-23. The Sooners failed to cover the spread as 46-point favorites in last Saturday’s 59-17 win over Louisiana-Monroe, but did improve to 7-0 SU in its last seven games at home.

Saturday’s total is set at 63 points. The OVER is 7-3 in Oklahoma’s last 10 games overall.

Both of these teams entered the 2016 season ranked in the Top 6 of the preseason AP Top 25 poll. Oklahoma has already used up its room for error with its loss to Houston, and a home loss to Ohio State would likely put the Sooners out of playoff contention before the Big 12 conference schedule even begins.
